Study: Religion repressed in third of all nations

By DAVE BRYAN (AP) – 12 hours ago

NEW YORK — In Indonesia, Muslim groups burn down a mosque belonging to the minority Ahmadiyya. In Singapore, the government refuses to recognize Jehovah's Witnesses. In Belgium, 68 religion-based hate crimes are reported in 2007 alone.

People living in a third of all countries are restricted from practicing religion freely, either because of government policies and laws or hostile acts by individuals or groups, according to a study released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center, "Global Restrictions on Religion."

That amounts to 70 percent of the globe's population, since some of the most restrictive countries are very populous.

That was an interesting and informative article DEKE.

The one thing I found curious was that the article never mentioned China... one of the most restrictive nations ever, yet China has about a fifth of the world's population? It was almost like the report was attacking Islam in particular? (not making anything of it... just seemed curious.)

Interesting read. However, all we know are the facts as the author of the article presents them.

Now, what to do with the information ....
I suppose what one does with the information and the conclusions one draws will be quite subjective to one's own biases.

China, while being repressive, is also the home of thousands of folks who go to Home churches and a strong renewal of the church. The government will also look the other way if they view the help they receive from you as less threatening than the faith that may be the reason you are there.
