The Vicar of Dibney

The Vicar of Dibney

Any here familiar with a vintage British comedy series, "The Vicar of Dibney"? The village of Dibney in Wales I think, gets a new vicar and the Rev. Gerry turns out to be Geraldine. Gerry works in the fields of the Lord with 2 strikes against her as she is a woman and the normal complacency of the villagers.

I heard about this series years ago maybe from DPS but was unable to ever see it. One of our local PBS stations began airing it recently and I caught 2 shows. I am hooked. The adventures of Gerry and her clueless verger Alice are just a hoot.

I LOVE the Vicar of Dibley series. One of the elders at a previous pastorate gave me a whole set. My favorite was the big fund raiser where she hired Elton John, thinking it was the big star. It turned out to be someone far less known! Like Unknown!!!!

And of course, I love her council meetings with the alcoholic council member. Reminds me of a couple of my past meetings!

Hysterical!!

The Vicar of Dibley (which takes place in England, not Wales) is, so far, my all-time favorite of the Britcoms. I picked up the Christmas and New Year's special DVD a while back. Another couple of Britcom series that are fun are Bless Me Father and Father Ted. I got introduced to the latter series after my son returned home from a year in Ireland where the Father Ted series is a favorite (the series involves a rectory that houses 3 Irish priests).

Deke, if you have the chance to purchase the whole The Vicar of Dibley series at the price you mentioned, you're getting a very good deal, compared to see I've seen in retail video stores.

I LLLLLOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEE the Vicar of Dibley. Those of you who haven't seen me need to understand that I am the same size as the vicar. Different hair...and I covet those outrageous jumpers (sweaters) she wears. Serving a rural parish I have some members who are very much like the council.

Yes. Buy the series. It is awesome. Alice and Hugo's wedding is awesome.

The church in the Vicar of Dibley series (about 5 years) is St. Mary's Turville. It is a gorgeous Norman (I think) structure. Turville is the most photographed village in England and is in Oxford County. I had the pleasure of being there a few years back, and had my picture taken in front of the church. We where on our way (Sunday afternoon) to the sung evensong at Magdalene (Maudlin) at Oxford. We also stopped at Agatha Christie's grave) what a super day.
