I've been asked to be a guest steward at a neighboring congregation. I want to use this passage, and am hoping for any ways to tie it in to stewardship--I was thinking along the lines of while we are waiting, being found at peace, without spot of blemish--maybe making a connection between this and being a good steward.

3:11 and 3:14 could be relating to good stewardship of all things including tithing. I would certainly put forth in the message something from 8 because it talks about time in general. Nancy-Wi

Just an after thought, I was over reading the Psalm, it may also offer opportunities. Nancy-Wi

Patience- Always heard it said...I prayed for the patience of Job, then I got what Job had to go through...
Time...a thought I get here... We have all the time in the world...not enough time...we are so busy to have time to do stuff we need or want to do...
The statement 1000 years is like 1 day and in the reverse too... That's awesome to think of when think about God... However, think about us,people here...How many of us have said Man, I feel like I spent 1000 years with this nut-I mean person---it's only been 1/2 a day...
This made me think...the words we say...how they affect us and others...impatience...and wasting time on certain people, eh?
Now Tie that with God! It's a good thing He is willing to tary, as we put it...to give all opportunity to let Him transform our lives...1000 years with God wow, just 1 day, just beginning WOW!
Just remember this, it's a good thing we will have NEW Bodies and NEW attitudes, Because Could God put up with us for "his" one day... remember that the next time you get aggrvated at someone, or you just can't tolerate certain people... Perhaps we could tie this to the Isa 40 text. How they were to prepare the way for his 1st coming, and the parallels to our preparation for his second coming. We look at the calendar and say, Christmas is in X number of weeks, and we prepare accordingly. The people of Israel had no idea when Messiah would come. How do you prepare for an event that you can't mark on your calendar?

Pastor Mary: good thought. Is a day a long period of time or a short one? It depends on what you're doing. A day is a long time to, say, brush your teeth. A day is a very short time to, say, raise a child.
However, we keep looking to the Bible to give us an absolute, a finite definition. But we can't de-fine the Infinite, timeless God. It's dynamic, growing. Not in moral relativism, but in our understanding and relationship.

The thing that strikes me about this text is the focus. During Advent we are all too busy - and the season tells us to wait. We hate waiting. We are all focused on ourselves. This text turnes that on it's head and says "Don't wait - prepair... it is God who is waiting for you"
